how to brew pour over coffee
Brewing pour-over coffee is a straightforward yet rewarding process that allows you to highlight the unique flavors of your coffee beans. Start by gathering your equipment: you’ll need a pour-over dripper (like a V60 or Chemex), a filter, freshly ground coffee, a kettle (preferably a gooseneck for precision), and water. Begin by boiling water and letting it cool slightly to around 200°F (93°C). Place the filter in the dripper and rinse it with hot water to remove any paper taste and preheat the dripper.
Next, measure about 20 grams of coffee for every 300 milliliters of water, adjusting to your taste preference. Once your coffee is ground to a medium consistency, add it to the filter. Start by pouring a small amount of water over the grounds to bloom them for 30 seconds; this allows trapped gases to escape and enhances flavor extraction. Then, pour in the remaining water in a slow, circular motion, ensuring all the coffee grounds are evenly saturated. Once the water has completely dripped through, enjoy your freshly brewed cup of pour-over coffee!
